Preparation

Another creation from Alex Murray of Lighthouse Liquors, Beverly. And as he says "I sometimes have enjoyed the classic version of this cocktail, but will make this version for myself from now on. A much better balanced cocktail, in my humble opinion."

Fill glass with ice. Add the other liquid ingredients and stir. Garnish with a lemon twist. The classic version of this cocktail is made only with about 2 oz. Fernet Branca and Coke. The flavor emphasizes the sweet flavors up front and bitter flavors in the finish, with very strong botanicals. It has a kind of bracing juxtaposition of the sweet and bitter flavors, with no real mid-palate. This cocktail fills in the mid-palate with a soft caramel and butterscotch sweetness from the rum, while the other elements still come through in the entry and the finish. With one quarter the amount of Fernet Branca, the botanical and bitter flavors are still plenty strong. It’s really a great marriage between this classic South American cocktail and a rum and coke. The “Ronmaro” in the name is an amalgam of “Ron,” which means “Rum” in Spanish, and “maro,” short for “amaro.”
